Sami WildernessLife and Northern Lights

Program:  Day 1 - Arrival.

Arriving to Kittilä airport where guide will welcome you. Transfer to Muonio. Check-in to cabins (with sauna, shower and toilet). Welcome meeting, drinks, dinner and information about upcoming program. 

Day 2 - 3. – Snowmobile safari to wilderness,  where we stay overnight in a real Sami teepee  

Departure from Muonio in the morning. Driving through the forests, peatlands and fjells.  In the middle we take a break and have some coffee and picnic lunch by the fire place. As we arrive to the camp site we will build a teepee and make a fire. As a dinner we make delicious reindeer tenderloin with open fire potatoes and cranberry sauce. After dinner we spend a nice evening with an open fire. Safari includes (we provide) -40 `celsius sleeping bags so you don`t need to worry about getting cold. In the morning we make coffee, eat breakfast and continue our snowmobile adventure. In the afternoon we return to our cabin in Muonio where we enjoy sauna and delicious dinner. 

Day 4 – Ice fishing or Snowshoeing, sauna/smoke sauna, spa, ice pool and dinner 

Today you can choose, if you would like to go ice fish or snowshoeing? After breakfast we go either ice fishing or snowshoeing.

Below you will find programs: 

• Ice fishing excursion.

This trip will take us to lake Jeris lake, Äkäs lake or Muonio-river. When we have catched the fishes we will leave to Jeris spa to have sauna and relax.  Fish: Grayling, perch, pike and whitefish. 

Duration: 8 hours  

Day trip includes: Transfers, snowshoes, guide, picnic lunch, coffee, pastries, ice fish equipments, smoke sauna/sauna, spa and dinner. 

• Snowshoe excursion. 

This trip we consider the fitness level of each person. Guide will let us know about Lappish nature and all the things we experience and see during the trip. On a break we`ll have a hot chocolate or coffee. Afterwards we`ll have a nice sauna, spa, dinner and relax.

Duration: 8 hours

Day trip includes: Transfers, snowshoes, picnic lunch, coffee, juice, pastries, guiding, smoke sauna/sauna, spa and dinner. 

Day 5 – We`ll build an snow iglu - Are you brave enough to spend a night? 

After breakfast guides will lead us to build a snowiglu by the lake or river. During the day there is a hot drinks available and guide will make us a delicious food from around the open fire. It takes about 4 hours to build igly for 4-10 person, after this there is a time to relax in the cabin. In the evening we enjoy dinner under the northern lights and starry sky by the iglu. You have also opportunity to spend a night in iglu with a warm reindeer skin top of a "bed". We provide -40 `celsius sleeping bags so you don`t need to worry about getting cold. Morning sauna and warm breakfast will taste after this unforgettable night in iglu.  

Day 6 – Reindeer farm and reindeer safari

Today you will visit one of the reindeer farms. You will see a slide show about the year of a reindeer’s life which will give you information about the reindeer breeding habits and the role that the reindeer play in the Lapp culture. You will also see a small exhibition of the old traditional tools and things on the premises. Coffee will be served around an open fire in a typical Lapp tent. After the coffee you will be transferred to the reindeer herders, who will tell you about the reindeer and the reindeer husbandry. They will show you how to catch the reindeer with the Lappish lasso, and you can practise it yourself. After you have helped the reindeer herders to harness the reindeer you will start the safari through the forest. One or two persons in the sledge. Return to cottage. Sauna and farewell dinner. 

Day 7 – Departure 

Breakfast and a transfer to the Kittilä airport.

Please note that a valid driving license is required for driving a snowmobile!

The program can be changed free.

Children: Please note that children under 15 years cannot drive the snowmobile and small children cannot even drive the husky team. They will be sitting in the guide’s sledge during the safaris.
